About Us
Monica Kucher, DVM
Dr. Kucher, the founder and owner of Good Hands Veterinary Hospital, has been practicing veterinary medicine in the Athens area for over 15 years. During this time, she has earned a reputation for a high-quality, straightforward approach to medicine, as well as a genuine concern for her patients and their human companions. Dr. Kucher graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1989. As a student, she received the Small Animal Clinical Proficiency Award. She and her husband, Dr. Eric Mueller–a veterinary surgeon at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine–moved to Athens in 1989. They have two boys, Kurt and Kyle. Dr. Kucher is an active member of the community, participating regularly in the PTO, Oconee County Little League, Athens Humane Society, and PAWS. The Mueller family includes two dogs, Bull and Izzo, two cats,Smokey and Waffle, and a snake, Nicky. Dr. Kucher’s practice philosophy is simply to provide the highest quality of veterinary care to all of her patients and to continually educate her clients through open, honest and compassionate communications.


Mandy Cox, DVM
Mandy is an honor graduate from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. She was a First Honor Graduate at Shorter College in Rome, Georgia, where she received her undergraduate degree in biology. She is from Lilburn, Georgia, where her parents still reside. Dr. Cox is married to Tim McGough, a local business owner. They have two dogs, Amos and Jake, two cats, Prissy and Slinky, and she enjoys the outdoors, decorating, antiques and arts and crafts. She is dedicated to practicing high quality medicine, while showing compassion to her patients.


Dr. Jill Coleman, DVM
Dr. Coleman has been practicing veterinary medicine in Athens since her graduation (with honors) from the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine in May of 1995. She did her undergraduate work at Furman University, graduating in 1991 with a B.A. in English. After her graduation from UGA Veterinary School, she was extremely fortunate to have been able to work with Dr. Kucher and Dr. Malnati (a board certified veterinary surgeon) for five years. She feels even more fortunate and excited to be reunited with Dr. Kucher here at Good Hands Veterinary Hospital. In her spare time, she enjoys playing softball, flag football, backpacking, camping and traveling.


Dr. Cristina Cameron, DVM
Cristina is a full-blooded UGA graduate. She received her undergraduate degree in biology and her doctorate of veterinary medicine here at the University of Georgia. Cristina grew up in Texas and moved to Savannah, Georgia, with her family when she was in high school. Cristina enjoys her career and practices compassionate, knowledgeable medicine and surgery. She has two beautiful Boxers, Jolie and Phoebe. In her spare time, Cristina enjoys playing the clarinet, painting and spending time with her family, friends and dogs.



Dr. Emily Baldwin, DVM
Emily graduated from North Georgia College and State University in 2000, with a B.S. in biology, and from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. After graduating from veterinary school, she completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Carolina Veterinary Specialists in Charlotte, North Carolina. She worked in Cornelia, Georgia, for two years after her internship. She was very excited to be given an opportunity to come back to Athens and work at Good Hands in the Fall of 2007! She currently lives in Cornelia, Georgia with her husband, Will, who is also a veterinarian. They have two dogs, Bear and Abigail, and three cats, Beano, Baxter and Garfield. She enjoys home improvement projects and being outside hiking or riding her bike.



Veterinary Technicians

Laura Boatright
Laura has been a long-time client and friend of Dr. Kucher. Laura graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.A. in political science and history. She enjoys spending her free time traveling, hiking, reading (especially history) and hanging out with her two cats, Blanco and Fox Mulder, and her seven snakes.






Cindy
Cindy has worked as a licensed veterinary technician for the last 19 years. She has a special interest in peri-operative pain management and critical care medicine, and she also teaches advanced anesthesia techniques to area veterinary clinics. She lives in Athens with her dog and two cats. In her spare time, she is busy with her own small business, Creative Creations, specializing in decorative art and design.




Jackie Werntz
Jackie moved to the area and joined the Good Hands family in August, 2006. She is from Statesboro, Georgia, where she was a technician for three years. Jackie has been married to her husband, Patrick, for a little over a year and they have five, four-legged children: an Australian Shepherd named Chrissy, and 4 cats, Crook, Snickers, Gabby and Trever. In her spare time, Jackie loves being with family and friends, being outdoors, riding horses and reading.



Natalie French
Natalie joined Good Hands in October of 2007. She recently moved back to Athens after living in Atlanta and working as a veterinary technician. Natalie received her degree in Animal Science from UGA in May, 2005. She hopes to attend veterinary school at UGA in the fall of 2008. For the past 19 years, Natalie has ridden horses and competed in the hunter/jumper discipline since the age of eight. She continues to ride and show her horse, Dera, when time permits. She and her husband, Drew, have a black Labrador, Ellie, and a cat, Phinn.


Lauren Potocik
Lauren is from Augusta, Georgia and is currently attending UGA. She is majoring in Animal Science and hopes to go to vet school in the future. She enjoys being around animals of all kinds, especially her two ferrets, Oliver and Little Bit, and her dog, Bay.







Christina Figueroa
She is in her second year at UGA Vet School. Christina loves being with her family, as well as playing with her Bulldog, Rumor.











Receptionists

Jennifer Lightsey
Jennifer is our head receptionist and has been a member of the Good Hands family since 2003. She grew up in nearby Auburn, Georgia, but has lived in Athens since graduating from UGA with her biology degree. While not at work, Jennifer loves to read and relax with her husband, Jeff, two cats, Jager and Wiskey, and their three dogs, North, Lily and Deuce.





Laura LaMotte
Laura is a third-year student at the University of Georgia, studying to get her Masters of Social Work degree. Born and raised in Athens, Laura loves all the many things Athens has to offer. Having worked at Good Hands since May, 2002, as well as sharing many cats, dogs and other exotic animals with her family, it’s no wonder she loves caring for animals. When she has a moment to spare, she loves spending time with her family, her boyfriend and friends, eating good food and singing for her church.



Casey Aaron
Casey is originally from Shelbyville, Tennessee. She moved to Athens in 1992. She previously worked at the UGA Large Animal Hospital as an overnight tech and is now a full-time receptionist here at Good Hands. She loves riding horses and spending time her husband, Jacob, and their family, which consists of three horses, two cats and a dog, Roc, who is a six-year-old black Lab—their first "son"—who is spoiled rotten. Jacob and Casey are expecting their "second" son, Wade, who is due to arrive on January 25th, 2008. They are very excited and can’t wait.

Jessica Adams
Jessica is currently a sophomore at North Oconee High School. She has four dogs, Bosley, Harley, Dexter and Max. In her spare time, she loves to play softball and hang out with her friends.


Kennel Assistants

Andie Wilson
Andie is from South Georgia and moved to Athens about two years ago to attend UGA. She is currently taking a break from school while working here. In her spare time, she enjoys being outdoors and playing with her two dogs, Molly and Goram, and her cat, Mary Jane.







Jaclyn Enners
Jaclyn is an undergraduate student at the University of Georgia. She is an English major, who hopes to attend vet school one day. When she’s not reading Hemingway, or studying for her science classes, she can be found on the back of a horse. Jaclyn is the treasurer for the newly formed UGA IHSA Equestrian Team and has ridden English (Hunters) for the last six years. When she’s at home, she loves spending time with her 2-year-old longhaired Guinea Pig, Sprout.



Morgan White
Morgan is from Watkinsville, Georgia, just outside of Athens. She is a senior in high school and plans to major in veterinary medicine. She enjoys being around animals of all kinds, large and small, including her three dogs, two cats and her two horses, Montana and Dillion.

Jessica Cox
Jessica is a junior at North Oconee High School planning to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine. She is an active FFA member and enjoys showing her dairy calf. Her other pets include 3 dogs, 3 goats, a bird and a cat.


Ashley Benson
Ashley is from Watkinsville, Georgia. She graduated from Oconee County High School in May, 2007 and is currently attending Athens Tech for a degree in Veterinary Technology. She, then, has plans to pursue a Registered Nurse degree. Ashley has two wonderful dogs, JJ and Scooter. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her dogs, family and friends.





Amy Clute
Amy is an undergraduate student at the University of Georgia, majoring in animal health and biological sciences. She is the Vice President of the Pre-Vet Club, and she also works as an orderly in ophthalmology in the UGA Small Animal Teaching Hospital. She recently joined the UGA Foal Team and volunteers with the National Guide Dog Foundation training puppies. She recently applied to vet school and hopes to attend in the Fall, 2008. In her free time, she enjoys scrapbooking and spending time with her friends and family.


Angela Laster
Angela is attending Georgia Southern University. In her spare time, she likes hanging out with her friends, running and spending time with her two cats, Max and Kit, and her dog, Mindy. Her future plans include attending vet school.
