Good Hands earns its reputation as Athens’s top vet hospital client by client. We have been with Good Hands since it was just Dr. Monica Kucher, practicing out of an SUV. Our dogs and our cat get caring and thoughtful attention. The staff members—from the receptionists to the techs to the groomers to the veterinarians—are professional and compassionate. If an animal requires specialty treatment elsewhere, the veterinarians have contacts throughout the Southeast, and we have found their network fast and effective. Now that we are working in animal rescue, Good Hands has become the approved vet in Athens for Schnauzer Love Rescue. We are grateful to be able to depend on such high quality support for our animal family and fosters.

Good Hands Veterinary Hospital is the best! I can't say enough good things about the vets, techs and staff who have given wonderful care to our many dogs and cats over the years. Dr. Monica, Dr. Mandy and Dr. Jill are truly the best vets around. Having dealt with animal health issues great and small, I can say that I have never left confused about the prescribed treatment - all of the docs and techs are great listeners and excellent at explaining the course of treatment, along with moral support as needed! The reception staff is always friendly and helpful - they do a fabulous job of making visits run smoothly. They also offer daycare and boarding, so your dog can have fun with other dogs during the day and be worn out when it's time to go to sleep if they are spending the night!
After 5 years, I am still so glad that I found Good Hands to be our vet! I consider everyone there a friend and feel confident that our fur babes get the best care available.

Hi! My name is Alex, and I am a 12-year-old-mini-dachsund. I was paralyzed in 2008, and I recovered but not 100%. I love to play fetch and do not have a clue that I have IVDD. Some days I would get fatigued by the end of the day, but then I found laser therapy. Dr. Kucher introduced it to me, and now I can play and play and play.
My family and I have been bringing our animals to Good Hands since Monica opened the doors! I would think of going nowhere else! Since I got my first cat on my own, Tait, in 1996 (Monica was making house calls then!), I have used Good Hands. Three years ago he got sick and I put him to sleep in order to end his suffering. All of the staff at Good Hands were so gracious and kind. They helped me through that hard time. I also take my 3 other cats to visit Good Hands yearly. They have been treating Ivy for 14 years, and Hank and Tootsie for 2 years!
In February of this year, my 9 ½ year-old English bulldog, Millie, started losing weight and was just not being herself. I was able to get a same-day appointment and Dr. Mandy Cox checked her out. After examination and referral to a specialist, she ended up having a baseball-sized mass on her spleen and was eventually removed. From the day she was examined, to surgery was less than 2 weeks. I couldn’t have asked for better care for my best girl! Incidentally, she had a few set backs, including left facial paralysis, pneumonia, and congestive heart failure. But because of the attentiveness of the doctors and diligence of the staff at Good Hands, she is doing well and will celebrate her 10th birthday in July! Not only have they helped her through this ordeal, but they have also been so helpful with Millie’s laser treatments for her arthritic hips, knees and shoulders. When I say to Millie, “Let’s go see Dr. Mandy or Dr. Monica,” she gets excited and trots right into the clinic!
I couldn’t ask for a better group of people to care for my furry children! The care is second to none! We are always greeted as we walk in, When I call they even know me and my babies! Thanks Monica, Mandy, Mark, Missy, Amber, Cindy and everyone else who helps my zoo crew stay alive and well!
