Pet Nutrition

Achieve the right nutritional balance.

Proper diet is a fundamental piece of your pet’s overall preventive health program.

These days, pets live longer, healthier lives than ever, thanks in part to advances in veterinary nutrition. Our doctors can help you plan an appropriate dietary regimen that takes your pet’s weight, age, food allergies, digestive or other medical conditions into consideration.

While immunizations and timely medical care are vitally crucial for the well-being of your animal companions, proper nutrition is another component that is sometimes overlooked. At Good Hands, we believe that pets can live longer, healthier lives when they are supported by a well-balanced, quality diet.

Although there are many pet food brands to choose from, we carry two lines extensively, Hill’s Prescription Diet and Royal Canin Foods. We also stock a select amount of Purina Prescription foods and Healthy Advantage foods. Our doctors have selected these brands specifically, as there is extensive research and science behind them.

Prescription Diets

Hill’s, Royal Canin, and Purina brand pet foods meet the highest standards in pet nutrition and are backed by years of research. The prescription lines are designed to help manage various conditions and specific diseases; they often works in conjunction with various medications. In many cases, the right prescription diet can slow the progression of a disease and minimize symptoms.

Some of the most popular types of prescription diets we carry are:

  • W/D or Purina DM (for weight management/diabetic management)
  •  Z/D or Hydrolyzed Protein (for pets with allergies)
  • C/D or Urinary SO (for bladder stones)
  • Metabolic or Satiety (for weight loss)
  • J/D or Mobility Support (for joint care)
  •  K/D or Renal Support (for kidney disorders)
  • I/D or GI Low Fat (for various gastrointestinal conditions)

*For the finicky palate, there are several “recipes” including chicken and rice, ocean fish, lamb meal and beef.

We stock several healthy treat options as well as treats that work with our prescription diets. We also stock a select amount of Composure treats, a treat that is meant to have a light calming effect on both cats and dogs.
